Insurance Print
Arrangements have been made whereby members can insure their Bentleys with Lloyd's Underwriters.  It will be found difficult to effect insurance at such competitive rates outside this scheme.  Pioneered in the days when such schemes were virtually unheard of, the Club’s scheme is used by many of the members and provides many fringe benefits.

Club Insurance

The Club Insurance scheme, a pioneer of its type and open only to members of the club, provides a comprehensive insurance package tailored specifically to the needs of the Club’s members resident in the United Kingdom.

Members are also able to arrange for one of the nominated Club Officers to provide insurance valuations for their Club Cars, which are required by all specialist insurers for agreed value policies. Details of how to obtain the necessary forms can be found in Club Notes.

The cost of a Club Insurance Policy is such that when compared to insurance market alternatives will often produce savings that cover the cost of your Club membership!

Full details of the scheme can be obtained upon joining the Club. If you are already a member please contact club office.  However, the following notes from Allan Mitchell of RH Specialist Insurance should whet your appetite…

It has been more than 30 years since the Club Insurance Scheme was first conceived, at a time when Insurance packages of this nature were virtually unheard of. The Club gave RH the brief to devise a Motor Insurance package, catering specifically for the Members Club cars. The aim was to reflect the special regard that enthusiasts have for their vehicles, in the majority of cases the limited use and annual mileage covered and of course the specialist nature of the vehicles themselves.

At that time, the Insurance Market would have rated such vehicles entirely on the basis of them being expensive, powerful cars and charging an appropriately high premium for the perceived risk. Fortunately for the members, a Lloyd’s Underwriter was persuaded to take, what was at the time, the unprecedented gamble of offering dramatically reduced premiums, particularly on the pre-war cars.

Since that time, we have seen a large number of “copycat” schemes for various specialist vehicles such as kit cars, hot-rods and the like, in addition to vintage, veteran and classic cars. In fact an entire industry has now mushroomed out of this original pioneering scheme.

The innovation which was shown in the original concept has been the subject of continuous development, with policyholders now enjoying substantially enhanced benefits in cover whilst still obtaining significant premium savings. Here are just some of the Benefits you will enjoy under the

The RH “Brooklands” Policy

Free foreign travel: The policy covers travel within the European Union or its Associate members for up to 60 days any one trip without prior notification to insurers.

Dismantled Parts cover: The policy extends to cover dismantled parts of the insured vehicle whilst kept in secure locked premises. Standard insurance policies only cover parts whilst attached to the insured vehicle.

Agreed Values Clause: Subject to an independent valuation, Insurers will agreed the sum insured for your vehicle and guarantee the settlement figure in the event of the vehicle being lost or damaged beyond economical repair.

Salvage Cover: This clause automatically applies to any vehicle over 20 years old and gives the policyholder the right to the vehicle salvage in addition to the full agreed value settlement figure. Most Insurers would only pay out a Total Loss settlement figure and would, under the terms of their policy, retain and dispose of the salvage. Having regard for the unique nature of the vehicles we are insuring, this would be wholly inappropriate.

Breakdown and Recovery: In 1999 we saw the introduction of the free recovery service as a standard part of our “Brooklands” policy. This cover extends to include roadside assistance and vehicle recovery in respect of any breakdown which takes place one mile or more from the insured’s premises. This service automatically extends the cover the United Kingdom and Europe as defined within the policy (without additional premium).

Overseas Cover: In year 2000 we turned our attention to the demand for worldwide cover, as a result of the increasing popularity of International rallies and tours. The UK Members who are insured under the club scheme through RH can now seek a quotation to extend their policy for short term visits to most parts of the world. Unfortunately, the liability cover would still need to be obtained locally but we can in most cases cover the damage aspect from the UK.

We believe that the above illustrates some of the key benefits of the Club Scheme and highlights the reason why the Club policy has remained a market leader for over 30 years.

The good news continues with the introduction of the RH Collectors Policy which provides all of the benefits illustrated above but with the advantage of a more individual rating structure tailored to reflect the size and nature of the collection. We can now include all vehicles any age and type. (Including Motorcycles and Commercial Vehicles)

The long term success of the Club Scheme is a direct result of the exceptional support it has received from the membership. Club Officers continue to work closely with RH to bring to members a unique range of insurance covers offering high standards of service and product quality. Finally, We would like to draw your attention to our wide reaching ability to provide members with bespoke Home Owners Insurance solutions available through both RH Specialist Insurance and our parent company Willis Limited.

Acceptance under the scheme is subject to certain Underwriting criteria.RH Specialist Insurance is a trading style of Willis Limited, a Lloyd’s broker, authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.
