Inaugural WOBMF event at the Clubhouse a huge success

The inaugural Talks Day at the Clubhouse, which heard from three fascinating speakers and was organised by the Bentley Memorial Foundation in conjunction with the BDC, was held last Saturday.

A packed museum welcomed a sell-out audience of around a hundred BDC and Foundation Members and guests who listened to three talks, each lasting around 45 minutes.

Former Jaguar boss Sir John Egan told a rapt audience the riveting story of how he and his team saved the legendary marque from oblivion some 40 years ago.

Club Member Doug McWilliams recounted the absorbing tale of how he and brother Mike took a standard Bentley S1 and competed in, and completed, the gruelling Peking to Paris Motor Challenge in 2019. Doug's S1 took pride of place in the car park.

And Foundation Life Associate Peter Grimsdale narrated the epic saga surrounding the Bentley Boys and Le Mans in the 1920s under the title Racing in the Dark.

Members and guests also enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch and were able to snap up the books which formed the basis of each speaker’s presentation.
