S3 SSS wins Bentley Trophy

Congratulations to BDC Member Joachim Wrang-Widen whose magnificent 1965 S3 Standard Steel Saloon (pictured) was awarded the Bentley Trophy at the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court on Sunday (4 September).

Runners up were the 2000 Continental T of Ian Griffiths and the 1964 S3 Continental Drophead Coupe Park Ward owned by fellow Club Member Michael Caton. 

Monique Bass, another Club Member, saw her 1993 Brooklands deservedly win the Bentley Trophy Best Engine Bay award; this was a special accolade presented – at the discretion of Giles Crickmay, of Frank Dale and Stepsons, who kindly carried out the judging – to recognise the car’s outstanding level of preparation.

In all, almost 40 Club Members took the opportunity to display their cars in front of the historic palace on what has traditionally become known as Bentley Sunday. Models ranging in age from Kevin Hutchby’s 1925 3 Litre to Peter O’Neill’s 2017 Continental GTC V8S by Mulliner were showcased in a special Bentley area in front of palace.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Concours of Elegance, previous winners of the coveted Best in Show crown were welcomed back. This included the illustrious 1930 Speed Six ‘Blue Train’ which took home the top prize in 2013.

The Best in Show award, chosen by the owners of the Concours entrants themselves, was a beautiful Delage D8-120 de Villars. 

Finally, the spectacular new Mulliner Batur – the most powerful Bentley ever – enjoyed its UK debut at the show.
