100 Years of Bentley Racing Success

Calling all racing Bentleys and Bentley racers...

On 16 May 1921, Frank Clement (pictured) scored Bentley’s first-ever race victory, winning the Junior Short Handicap at Brooklands, driving the company’s 3-litre EXP2.

Exactly 100 years later to the day, EXP2 will return to the Brooklands track as the star of a day celebrating the centenary of the start of Bentley’s extraordinary history of competition success.

The BDC is working with Brooklands Museum to organise this a fantastic day of action, with racing Bentleys of all ages taking to the Finishing Straight, Banking and Test Hill of the original Brooklands circuit in a series of demonstration runs.

And, in the best Bentley racing tradition, the Saturday evening will see a champagne reception followed by a Black Tie celebration dinner in the atmospheric Napier Room of the iconic Brooklands Clubhouse, with a menu based on that enjoyed by guests after one of Bentley’s great race wins of the 1920s.

Subject to ongoing negotiations, the Club is also hoping to run a timed competition event for Bentleys at Brooklands on the Saturday.

Owners of racing Bentleys of all models and ages – from 3 Litres, Speed Sixes, Mk VIs and R-Type Specials to modern-era GTs – are urged to take part. Naturally, we want all other Club members, with their Bentleys, to attend any or all the events of this special weekend.
