FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: I understand this year’s Concours d’Elegance will be different compared to other years. Can you tell me why it will be different?

A: In order to mark the centenary of Bentley Motors, we wanted to make our Concours extra special this year and so it will be held at Blenheim Palace in association with the internationally renowned Salon Privé event. We will occupy the whole area on the north (lake) side of the palace and aim to collect a world record gathering of Bentleys. Our aim is to gather 1,001 cars from Members, non-Members and from Bentley Motors itself.  We will as usual welcome Concours entries from Members (up to 30), Patina entries from Members (up to 300) and we will hold the Regional Challenge. As usual there will be a group of exhibition cars and trade stands, plus the Club Shop and WOBMF. All Members will also be able to see the Salon Privé supercar display and have exclusive access to the Salon Privé closed area on the south side of the palace.

We have only been able to hold our Concours at Blenheim Palace thanks to the help of the organisers of Salon Privé and there are certain conditions which the palace has placed upon everyone, including our time of arrival. Because of the huge scale of this year’s event, which is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors, we will lose our usual ‘garden party’ atmosphere – but we hope the occasion and location will more than make up for it.

Q: How do I purchase tickets for the Concours d’Elegance?

A: All Members are requested to purchase their tickets online from Salon Privé (www.salonpriveconcours.com/bentley-owners). Tickets will be available from the beginning of March and are to be purchased by Friday 9 August. If any Member does not have the ability to purchase tickets online, then please contact the Club office. All cars will also be issued a special rally plaque to mark the occasion.

Q: Can you clarify the ticketing details.

Q: Do the Blenheim Palace dinner tickets allow entry to the Salon Privé/Concours weekend?

A: Unfortunately not. The dinner is a stand-alone event and tickets for Salon Privé and/or the Concours will have to be purchased separately.

Q: Can you tell me more about the Saturday night dinner at Blenheim Palace. Is there a limit on how many tickets a Member can buy?

A:  This black-tie event consists of a champagne reception on the Water Terraces, a fine dining menu served with fine wines in the Long Library followed by dancing on the South Lawn Enclosure. Tickets for this spectacular event are £250 each and can be purchased from www.salonpriveconcours.com/bentley-owners. There is no restriction on how many tickets an individual Member can buy.

Q: How do I enter my car for the Concours and Patina competitions.

A:  Entry will be completed in the same way as it has done previously – ie through the Club office. Details of when entries are to be submitted will be notified in due course.

Q: What time do I need to arrive at Blenheim Palace?

A: All Club Members, be they Concours judging class entrants or simply event visitors, will need to be parked up by 9.30am. All cars are to enter and leave through the Ditchley Gate. The presentation of prizes will take place at 4pm. If a Member who is booked into Heythrop Park (see panel) wishes to park their car at the palace on Saturday evening, then transport will be arranged to return them to the hotel and bring them to Blenheim the following morning.

Q: Where will I be required to park?

A: There will be four separate parking areas: Concours, Patina, Bentleys and all other cars.  You will appreciate that with so many cars to park, the job of the marshals will be very challenging. Please follow their instructions.

Q: What catering provisions will be available at Blenheim?

A: Delicious high quality two-person picnic hampers can be pre-booked at the same time as you purchase your tickets. The details of what each hamper contains is on the ticketing website, and there are also vegetarian and gluten free options available. These are priced at £65 for a boxed hamper or £95 for a wicker picnic basket which also includes a half bottle of champagne and a picnic blanket. No hampers will be available to purchase on the day.

Alternatively, food is available in the Orangery restaurant, from a number of concession stands or you are of course able to bring your own picnic. Please note that private picnics will not be allowed inside the Salon Privé area on the South Lawn.

Q: Can I bring my dog to Blenheim Palace?

A: Dogs are allowed into the grounds of Blenheim Palace, but they will not be allowed into the Salon Privé (South Lawn) area, the formal gardens or the main courtyard where the supercars will be parked. They must be kept on a lead at all times.

Q: Where can I stay in the area?

A: Much of the accommodation in the surrounding area has already been taken. The BDC has pre-booked a number of rooms for its Members at the Heythrop Park Hotel (www.heythroppark.co.uk) for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. It is recommended that Members book soonest, as they are selling fast. Rooms can be booked on a personal credit card, by calling hotel central reservations and quoting ‘Bentley Drivers Club’.

Q: How can I find out more details about the Concours d’Elegance and Salon Privé events?

A: For Concours, please check for regular updates in Advertiser & Diary, the BDC website (www.bdcl.org), on social media (Facebook and Twitter) and the Full Throttle e-newsletter; for Salon Privé, please see the event website at www.salonpriveconcours.com
