If I may add a little,
WRF 831 indicates that the car was first registered in the County of Staffordshire between December 1951 and March 1952. Since the numerical part is generally allocated sequentially, the date from King’s book is confirmed, the next series of Staffordshire plates commencing at XRE 1 in March ‘52. At that time the Staffordshire indices were RE and RF, the first alphabetical character being again a sequence A, B, C... W, X, etc.
King’s book shows only one Bentley agent in the county, namely Attwood’s Garage, on the Lichfield Road in the county town of Stafford. This outfit is now defunct, unfortunately, and its premises have been replaced by a roundabout, which is a shame from one point of view, but greatly hastens my journeys to the shops! Attwood also had premises in Wolverhampton, which was in the Staffordshire administrative area at that time, but that town, now a city, had its own indices DA, JW, and UK one of which would have appeared on the car had the W’ton people supplied it.
