From iconic models to future classics – Howden Classics provides specialist vehicle insurance, with preferential rates for BDC Members.

Here are some of the benefits you will enjoy under the Howden Classics specialist insurance scheme:

Young Drivers: Howden Classics encourages the next generation of classic vehicle owners.

Driving accompanied: 

• Drivers aged 18-22 will be considered providing they have a clean, full, UK licence and are accompanied by an experienced driver.

This is a great way to introduce the under 25’s to the joys of classic motoring.

Driving solo:

• Drivers aged 23+ are acceptable providing they have no accidents, claims or convictions.  They will also need to have held their full UK licence for a minimum of 24 months.
• Drivers aged 19+ will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  In all cases where the driver is under 23, they will need to have served a minimum of 12 months+ driving on an accompanied basis and hold a clean licence with no accidents or claims.

All requests for cover will be subject to meeting the standard underwriting criteria.

Salvage Cover: free and automatic salvage return on all vehicles over 20 years of age which are insured on a classic basis (most competitors offer you the right to 'buy back' your salvage which can leave you out of pocket).  With Howden Classics you will receive your agreed or market value pay out, and your salvage, without any deduction from your settlement value.

Agreed Valuations: you can self-agree your classic Bentley’s value for insurance purposes (up to £50,000 per vehicle) subject to underwriter approval.   
For Bentleys valued above £50,000 a club or independent valuation will be required.  This means the insurers will agree the sum insured for your vehicle and guarantee the settlement figure in the event of your vehicle being lost or damaged beyond economical repair.

Breakdown and Recovery: all policies include UK & European breakdown and recovery, including home service. 

Dismantled Parts Cover: the policy extends to cover dismantled parts up to the value of your insured vehicle whilst kept in secure locked premises. 

Overseas Cover (non-EU): UK Club members who are insured under the Club scheme can seek a quotation to extend their policy for short term visits to most parts of the world. Liability cover would still need to be obtained locally but RH can, in most cases, cover the damage aspect from the UK. 

Foreign Travel: the policy covers travel within the European Union or its Associate members for up to 90 days any one trip without prior notification to insurers. 

Choice of Repairer: you can nominate your own repairer (or even, if you have the necessary skills, carry out the repairs yourself) in the event of damage to your classic vehicle. 

Collector’s Policy: you will receive all of the benefits illustrated above but with the advantage of a more individual rating structure tailored to reflect the size and nature of your collection. Howden Classics can include all vehicles of any age and type (including Private Cars, Motorcycles registered prior to 2009 and your classic Commercial Vehicles).

Modern Bentleys: Club Members who also run newer Bentleys, or similar prestige vehicles, as their everyday cars also have access to the Howden Classics Insurance scheme.
