REMINDER: BDC Sprint 2025

Thursday 24th April, 2025

By Stuart Newman

At Mallory Park, this Saturday, 26 April – 160 cars including 15 Bentleys line up

A reminder that the BDC Sprint will be held this Saturday - and with a bumper entry list it promises to be a fantastic day of competition.

The event – the first sprint organised by the Club after several years' absence – will be supported by many other recognised motorsport car clubs, some of which will be running championship rounds.

A huge field of some 160 cars covering a host of classic marques, including 15 Bentleys with many driven by Club Members, will take to the start line.

The weather in Leicestershire is set fair, so why not come along with your family and friends, make a day of it and give the racers your support? Mallory Park is known as one of the UK’s most welcoming circuits, and full catering and other facilities will be available.

Format:
Practice starts at 9.30am, with timed runs from 2pm.

Each competitor is allowed two practice and two timed runs. After being released from the pitlane where the timing starts, cars will negotiate three chicanes over the 1,666-metre course before ending their run just after the Bus Stop. The Bentleys will compete in a dedicated BDC class and results will count towards the Club’s end of season awards – adding extra spice to the competition.

You can check out the latest entry list by accessing the BDC Sprint section of the BDC website (Motorsport) – click here.

Who to watch – Bentleys:
The two Mk VI Specials of Paul Andrew and Tom Commander should be among the quickest of the 15 Bentley runners while it will also be interesting to see how experienced historic-car racer Robin Ward – who set a new Bentley lap record at BDC Silverstone last year – fares in his road-going Arnage.

The majority of Bentleys are of the Vintage variety, with a mix of 3/4½, 4½, 6½ and 3 Litres all vying for top spot.

Look out, too, for motorsport debutants Grant Boyd-Gibbins and son Soma sharing the family’s recently acquired ex-Sidney Gilmore competition-spec Derby 4¼ Special. Grant was once a top international skeleton racer while Soma is a leading downhill skateboarder and skier – so they’ll definitely be up for the competition.
