Sell-out audience enjoys three fascinating presentations at Clubhouse

The fourth annual Talks Day took place at the Clubhouse, organised by the Bentley Memorial Foundation in conjunction with the BDC, saw a sell-out audience of 90 Members and guests enjoy three fascinating presentations last Saturday.

The compelling story behind the race-against-time restoration of Sir Henry Segrave’s Sunbeam 1000HP land-speed record car, which is currently being prepared for its centenary return to Daytona Beach in March 2027, was told by experts Ian Stanfield (of the National Motor Museum) and Martin Braybrook (owner/MD of Brookspeed Automotive).

Following this, and a satisfying lunch served by Reg’s Catering, successful and versatile racing driver Mike Wilds provided a hugely entertaining look-back on his 60 years in motorsport – which included a spell in Formula 1 in the 1970s and a world sportscar championship crown the following decade.

The third engaging talk focused on the forthcoming celebrations in May to mark the centenary of the final event at Aston Hill, with Mike Stark, joint author of a book on the hill climb course’s history, highlighting WO and Bentley’s involvement in the venue’s notable past.

Adding further lustre to the day was the now traditional Wroxton Motor Show, which drew another varied collection of magnificent cars, both Bentleys and other marques, displayed in the car park.
