Ewen Getley shines at Donington

Nine Bentleys in Mad Jack race at Historic Festival

Ewen Getley was the leading BDC driver when he earned a superb top-six place in the Mad Jack race for Pre-War Sports Cars at the Donington Historic Festival last weekend.

Ewen (pictured) finished sixth, also bagging fastest lap in class (Vintage over 3000cc), having earlier risen as high as fourth just ahead of the pit-stops before handing over his 3/4½ Litre to team-mate Robin Tuluie in the 40-minute encounter.

Richard Hudson/Stuart Morley also produced a strong showing in the former’s 3/4½ to come home eighth in the 28-car field which boasted nine Bentleys piloted by BDC Members.

Just 10 seconds behind in ninth after also performing well was Stuart’s father Clive, the current BDC Racing Driver of the Year, and brother James in an identical machine, after Clive had broken into the top 10 just prior to the mid-race stops.

Club President Duncan Wiltshire enjoyed his usual “good dice”, involving much swapping of places, with close friend Jock Mackinnon for the 3 Litre class bragging rights. Duncan, Chairman of race organiser Motor Racing Legends, won their latest scrap and finished 15th after Jock – who nevertheless took fastest class lap – was black-flagged four laps from the end with an oil leak.

William Elbourn Snr and son George brought their 3/4½ home 17th, with Paul Pochciol (3/4½), Steve Ward/Josh Ward and Guy Northam (both 4½s) rounding out the top 20.
