I have just received a plea from a non-member friend to try to trace the Bentley 3 litre carrying registration number XW1604.
The message I received is below.

Subject: Looking for information - 3 Litre Bentley owner XW1604
Hi All Bentley enthusiasts,
I wouldn’t usually do this but I am asking a favour of you all who may know someone, somewhere who may just be able to assist in regards to a 3 Litre bentley. Picture below was taken in 1958 Prescot VMCC.
A colleagues Dad, Bernard (ginger) Herbert, was in the RAF in the late 1950's and a member of the RAFMSA, during this period he and some friend rebuilt a 3 litre red label Bentley , that had been left behind the officers mess, and was gradually turning into a garden feature, they prepared it with various non Bentley parts to be raced with the VSCC, which he did at Silverstone and Prescott, the airmen slept in the back of a van and where a very ramshackle site, at one event they were taken under the wing by a Mr Burton ( apparently a legendary Bentley tuner)who helped them get the Bentley running correctly and gave advise on making it quicker!
His farther now in his 80's has recently been diagnosed with Cancer and is unlikely to see the year out, I know it would be a real experience for him to see the car again or speak to the owner, so if anyone has any information it would be gratefully received.
3Litre Bentley XW1604.
Any assistance would be hugely appreciated.
Thank you,
Regards Joe. |

I saw this car at a rally near to me at Cannon Hall in 2013, it looked magnificent.

See the above.
I assume that you have approached the club office, and/or looked through the members list.
Apologies for stating the obvious, but just in case........😉

Not in the list of Members' Cars that I could see, and the request came to me 'out of hours'.
I thought that my best move would be this open posting.
I found the car on the DVLC 'site as requiring a virtual tax disc at the end of this month, which suggests that it's on the road.
It's also possible that the owner is a BDC member, but has ticked the 'no publicity' box (for those of us who remember the Football Pools). |

Only about five members have asked not to be listed in the printed membership list. I know others have asked not to be listed online. I am sure club office would pass on a request in these circumstances if they know the owner. I know Kurt Furger, who owned to car 2004-2006. He is in the online list if you want to contact him. He is currently on the NZ tour. You can mention that I suggested asking him. |
