During a recent club tour, we visited the Le Mans curcuit. In the museum there, is the 1924 race winning 3ltr.
It is on beaded edge tyres, I think the well based rim and appropriate tyre didn't arrive until late 1924 (?).
Looking at the beaded edge tyre, there is a remarkably small footprint on the road. This must result in none too good ultimate road holding, but deliciously light and direct steering.
Running well based rims and the fatter tyres must put much greater loads on the steering gear etc, should one be concerned?
Does anyone out here run a 3ltr on beaded edge tyres? I assume they were racing on them.

I did not think the well base wheels came in till around 1927. Assumed, probably wrongly, that this was when the later steering box ratio came in.
