Looks like we're the only people here.

I'm sorry to greet the new forum with complaints, but the default font is clearly far too small given the age profile of the users. Also only seeing two lines of one's draft post is pretty unsettling. And furthermore, where have all the pictures gone? We've all spent hours uploading those and they seem to have disappeared.

I can't access the new forum from my phone which used to be my default.

What would Laurie make of all this? Can we have the old forum back please?

Yes, Stephen, it's all a bit strange - unnecessarily wide, and much too shallow (too much space taken up by the 'header')...and as you say, no pictures, and odd font-size choices (e.g. here, above, the font for 'Default' and 'Normal' are enormous, while none of the 'clicks' in the row above these are centred; and the typed-text font-size is miniscule!

Hi Peter. I'm pleased a few more posters are managing to break in. I'm spared what is referred to in equestrian circles as "separation anxiety".

The update looks like the work of a hawk-eyed twenty-something. A far better use of resources would have been to add a spell checker to the old forum and then leave well alone.

The big grey circle nearly gives me a heart attack when it flashes up on the screen. Perhaps they thought we needed livening up a bit?

I've just read Full Throttle 114, noted the need for patience and followed the intructions which got me to this screen;
At this point, I would like to show you a screenshot of The Porsche GB website, however the forum currently has no image directory to upload it into. Luckily I am, as our second Relate counsellor observed, "a very patient man".

I have always found others' technical photos, (going back years on the forum) to be a useful reference source.

Suddenly, none of the pictures seem to accompany the previous posts.
Does this mean that some geek has accidentally deleted them all, or is there a secret mode of access?

Also, this dialogue box is frustratingly small to compose in and why do I have to log in twice every time now?

I much preferred the Laurie Fox version.

I am loathe to negatively criticise new efforts and understand of course that gremlins are almost inevitable. Unfortunately though, this new site is fundamentally flawed in terms of ease of access, searchability and user-friendliness. I joined the club for its forum, which I had always found most helpful. Without meaningful improvements, or ideally re-adoption of the previous forum I see little point in continued membership.

Indeed, we in the East Midlands region have a policy of not criticising volunteers, which we often comply with, however there are limits.

I’m feeling a very strong sense of loss. Fortunately I will be having dinner with an NHS psychotherapist later, so can explore the changes to the forum with her.

It seems to me that this forum does a lot less than the previous one, and offers nothing new to compensate for that. The appearance is plain ugly. I’m curious about how it got signed off as fit for purpose? As a minimum, it is to be hoped that the photographs can be reinstated along with the ability to post new photographs, which is currently not possible.

I wonder if it would help if we were to compile a wish-list?

Well, I am (was) forum manager, but nobody told me this was happening and I had no input, so I guess I am not now. I imagine the problems can be fixed easily enough. The picture posting could be just a case of creating a directory and copying the old content.

Well thank you for giving up your time to manage the forum thus far. It's brought a lot of pleasure to its rather select band of users. Quality rather than quantity, perhaps?
FWIW, the interface is slightly better on the phone (working now) than the computer. I note that the club shop has also lost its images. A bit of a work in progress, then?
Was it Laurie's idea that we use our names on here? I can remember Alan posting as Bensport decades ago, so we've had silly names before but it wouldn't help my sense of loss if we were to lose the present protocol.

The only way I have found my way onto the new forum was to type 'forum' into the search box. I assume there is a more straight forward method but it so far eludes me. Can anyone advise?
The type does seem very small but I assume that this is all work in progress and that the layout will be sorted out in due course..

How did you get your font to enlarge then shrink back down again?

It's a bit of a faff. Given the tiny text box we're provided in which to create our posts, and the lack of spell checking, I have resorted to typing posts in a word document then copy 'n pasting them into the forum.
Having got your text in the input box/slot by whatever means, you highlight the lot by holding down the control key and hitting a on the keyboard (Ctrl A) to select all, then you can alter the font size and colour with the dialog boxes above the text slot. There may be quicker ways of achieving the same thing.

A quicker way of achieving the same thing would be to have a properly designed forum and not to have altered the layout that worked well.
I achieved this size print by highlighting my post and using the font size menu.

The danger with manually highlighting your post in order to change the font size is that you might only highlight part of it, hence my suggestion to use Ctrl A (select all) to be sure of getting the lot.

I now find that I am required to login twice whenever I want to access the forum, whereas before I stayed logged in contunuously so logging in was very rare indeed.

While I’ve got your attention, did you see the old Frost cast iron English Wheel on ebay? My big Chinese Wheel is gonna need some serious girders welded onto it before it can be used in anger, so I’m sure you’re right to hold out for the real thing.

Also, I wonder if what is missing from your life is an abandoned R-R Meteor engined MKVI special? It also comes with a B81. BDC member Viv Mitchell is looking to sell and has asked if I know anyone who might be interested.

GAWD NO!. They start as such good ideas. I have £1000.00 of c106 5mm copper sheet here and have only made rough cuts as yet. The rolling machine comes first but I refuse to buy one for a one off.
The maturing 2018 cider is maturing nicely, so bring a couple of clean coistrels.

It's good to see that improvements are being made to the forum software. The font has increased in size, as has the dialog box that we type in. Also there is a spell checker, possibly for the first time, which is a great help.

It's still frustrating that the legacy photographs aren't visible. If posters look in their "gallery" they will note that their images are still there; 390 in my case, so there is still hope that they can be reunited with the messages that they have become disconnected from.

As my house could flood, the lift is there to keep the car out of trouble and does make life so much easier doing sundry works.

Re. pictures; how does one access the "gallery" you mention?
Is this just for the poster, or can others' pictures be accessed?

For example, you posted some very upsetting pictures of a Mk VI being desecrated not long ago.
I tried to find them to see if there is just one sunroof drainpipe, or two, as I have only ever noticed one on the offside on B143WG. Perhaps there is another which has been welded up in antiquity, (like the apertures for the trafficators when someone added flashing ones, probably in the 60's?)
