My Bentley MK VI underwent a total overhaul at Jack Barclay's in 1956. Does anyone know if it was common practice there at the time to reset the odometer to zero (or fit a new one)?

Hi Frank, welcome to the forum.
I regret but cannot give an answer to your question.
However, if you have the invoice from back in 1956 a new speedometer would have been listed if fitted, and one would think that this would have the odometer at zero. But my personal view would be that they would not zero the existing unit.
How interesting that the car had such an overhaul at a relatively young age. Do you have any idea of it’s history up to that date? Presumably a high mileage.
