With regarding BDC Silverstone on Saturday 22 August does anybody know whether it will be televised and streamed, (not necessarily live)? It would be nice to be able to watch the races from home. If it is to be streamed can someone post the link from where it can be watched? Thanks, John Blundell |

What is the point of having a club event that club members cannot attend? Surely this event cannot be allowed to proceed in such circumstances? |

I think the point is that this is for club members - those who race.

My point exactly. Only a small proportion of club members race. |

Did you post this for any reason, rather than ask the committee and then post the answer. or were you just making space for some to have a misguided rant.
A lot of sports meetings are taking place around the UK behind closed doors. |

I can see your point Nicholas, but then we have the MIRA sprint every year (well not this year) at which there are no spectators and nobody I know of has suggested that it should not be allowed, because only a small number of members compete.
I do not race myself but I think it is great that the club has been able to organise a meeting for those that do in the current circumstances.

It seems a perfectly reasonable question given that the club was already facing an uncertain future at the start of the year and the outlook hasn't exactly improved.
I've never understood the MIRA event. It must make some sense to somebody. I went along to help once and there were 9 Bentleys competing. I'm sure we would get a far bigger entry if members could spectate first. John Scanlon entered his completely standard Arnage and had a lot of fun. I think others would do the same if they could see it first. There are plenty of equivalent venues we could use, that don't ban spectators. Rum do.
As to Silverstone 2020, it seems an audacious use of club funds to put it mildly, given the turbulent times ahead. I guess, from Nicholas's point of view it must look like his not inconsiderable subscription (+ £50 joining fee) is being spent subsiding a small group of wealthy people hooning round Silverstone behind closed doors.
On the other hand, motorsport is a very important aspect of the club so I can understand the reluctance to give up on it. |

I have no doubt that the entry fees to race are not insubstantial. The fact that due to current regulations spectators are not allowed, I assume means that Silverstone have to provide far fewer staff to deal with that aspect and consequently the rental for the track is lower (?). It may be self funding.
Competition is fundamental to the club, I am pleased that they are running it, even if at a hopefully small loss. While I am sure that some competitors are wealthy, many are not.
The initial posting enquired if the event would be filmed or broadcast in any way, I cannot see any reference to this on the website, a call to the office would be the best bet. |
