I am trying to build up some history of my 3 Litre. |The car was sold to the previous deceit owner in the early 70's by a Bentley dealer called Grant. I have been told that this dealer may have died and his cars and parts were sold by his son called Harris Grant. Initially I was told the business was just over the boarder in Scotland, but the business may have been in Northumberland or Cumbria. Any information about a boarders Bentley dealer called Grant in the 60-70's, would be greatly appreciated. |

What is the chassis number of your car?
Have you asked the club archivist if the club have any history? |

No “Grant” mentioned in the review index.

John.
Can you find any Bentley dealers in the border region in the 60's early 70's?

A browse though some 1960’s/1970’s motor sport magazines, they would surely have advertised there.
Motor Sport back issues are available to read online on their website, I assume that the scans include the advertising. |

Peter,
A browse through the March 1958 edition of Motor Sport produced no mainland dealers north of Stalybridge or Nottingham, and one in Belfast.
C J Bendall of Stevenage was offering a 1928 4.5 litre at £145, and two Speed model 3 litres at £210, and £190.
Should Mr. Murch have access to a time machine, their phone number was Stevenage 566.
By way of comparison, a new MG Magnette ZB Varitone was £740 plus £371.7.0 purchase tax. JM, if you do find the time machine, can I have a lift? I’d order a ZB Varitone in black, or maybe BRG, just to be obtuse.
Later...
The 1965/6 editions of the Review contain surprisingly little advertising, none of which is by car dealers. The May 1964 edition of Boddy’s Rag again shows a preponderance of London or south of England dealers with nothing north of the border.
Motolympia was dismantling a 1951 MkVI, B359GT, and 3 Austin Sheerlines, and a 1936 Vale was for sale for £195 from a garage at Crick. I’d heard they were a pain in the neck.
Cheers
