Posted on behalf of member - Graham Lawrence
Hello,
I am a member of the BDC in NSW Australia.
I wish to ask a question about my 1997 Continental R.
It has a mobile phone handset fitted but no phone.
Does any member know which Nokia phone model number or car kit would have been fitted by Bentley?
Nokia doesn't know, nor does previous owner who never had the phone.
The only reference number I have is on the connecting cable AAH-ID FE25/0324.
I'd like to fit the period phone (if I can find one).
Thank you
Regards
Graham Lawrence |

Hello Graham,
It is a long time since you posted your query about the mobile phone fitted in your 1997 model Continental R.
I also have a 1997 model and have the same problem and requirement. What phone is it? At least you have identified it is a Nokia (and I almost remember which type it was from when I joined a company in 1998 and was given a Nokia phone. The most common one around 1994 - 6 was the Nokia 2110 but that didn't have a connection on the back (which I think our cradle has, as well as a connection on the bottom. See this link:
http://www.mobilephonehistory.co.uk/nokia/nokia_2110.php
The 3110 which replaced it was introduced in 1997 and also didn't have a connection on the back - just the bottom.
Have you (or any other Bentley phone buffs) found the answer?

A search on line suggests that the phone would have been a Motorola 8900 or quoting from elsewhere. "I've got a 1997 (1997MY) car here which I think will be the same, and it is fitted with an
"Motorola International 2200 GSM" the model No from the back of the hand set is CCCN2023A. "
Would Bentley not have given the buyer the option of which phone they liked or was it a standard fitting?
John. |

Interesting - I originally thought that the set might have been a Motorola but:
a. I found a photo of a phone installed in a 1996 / 1997 Turbo R for sale which has the same cradle arrangement as my car. No Motorola phone looks like the phone installed.
b. David's message at the start of this thread mentions finding the word Nokia on the cradle. Had a close look at mine, yesterday, and Nokia is also moulded into part of the cradle.
With the help of a "Classic Mobile Phone" website (yes, they do exist and, apparently, some people collect classic phones), I have identified that the Nokia 6110 is the phone in the Bentley Turbo R picture. Looking at a few images on phones for sale on eBay, the aerial connection on the back and the pin connections on the bottom seem to match the arrangements in my cradle.
So for £20, I have bought one that says it is in working order (you can still get batteries and SIMS for these phones) and I'll see if it fits the cradle. I'll then report back what I find.
Some might think this all a bit odd but I just don't like having 'part of the car' missing. If I can get the system working (should be easier than resurrecting the TV console in my 1985 Turbo R - that was fun!), it might be handy for calls out at the very least.
All best and thanks

Hello all,
Further to my last message on this board, I have now received the Nokia 6110 mobile phone (£20 on eBay) and can confirm that it fits the Nokia cradle in the arm rest. The whole car hands-free systems works, when the ignition is switched on. When the ignition is off, the phone still works and charges but the microphone system doesn't work (as the car radio and cut-off is switched out).
I guess you are right John, that Bentley may well have given the first owner a choice but, if it is a Nokia cradle in the arm-rest, then the 6110 model should fit it. These images show the empty cradle (in arm-rest), the phone, and the phone installed (and working!).
