"It's a bit noisy on the drivers side, the MOT man says it might be a wheel bearing".
Can anyone figure out what went bang?
But it is alright now. |

Well Chris, what a fine mess! It appears as though there was a catastrophic seizure of the inner bearing race on the large component on the right of the picture and momentum did the rest. Was it lack of lubricant that caused the failure?

Martin,
All of the bearings were in fine condition, the r/h halfshaft was jammed into the diff box by the fragmented drum of the driving bevel, necessitating the cutting off of the r/h half.
The car had been running around, with brides, for at least two years with the failure noise, just on the left hand half shaft alone, driven by 1 pair if planet gears!
Yes John, I was nonplussed for a moment, but only a moment.
Unless one of the planet gears had failed, the cause remains unknown.
The car is running about, as we speak. |
