My original S1 headlamps are in need of restoration.
Before I start looking for a restorer I wonder if anyone has any recommendations or advice?
Thanks.

I rejuvenated the lamps on my '98 Daimler SV8 about 3 years ago by swilling dishwasher solution around. This was reasonably effective for about a year, but the milkiness returned eventually, so I had new units fitted. (I also had a new windscreen, which has, I think, made greater improvement to night driving than the new headlamps; it was also, to my surprise, considerably less expensive.)
The reflective coating was extremely thin and delicate; so much so that I detected some (trivial) separation at the edges. If you try this, do not be tempted to touch the surface: swill the liquid around gently and briefly, rinse with distilled water and leave to dry.
The coating on S1 lamps may well be different, so I offer this account without any guarantees. |

Have you considered the Lucas sealed beam equivalent? The "B" on its stanchion goes, but a lot of work is involved in getting the glass out of the existing one.

Thanks Chris, I'll try your suggestion.
I already have some Wipac units in pro tem but would like the originals back in place. |
