In the last two weeks I have been down to the South of France and back in the 3ltr (now with 4.5+lts and o/d).
Having to get back in a bit of a hurry, I decided to use the motorways for the first time. Overdrive and extra power has transformed the car and it was quite happy to cruise at 80 at 2400rpm.
Coming down I had been cruising at just under 2100 (65mph) to avoid the vibration period, the difference in fuel consumption was marked 15mpg (or less) v 19mpg.
The autovac had no trouble in coping, even when holding speed up long inclines.
I suppose full wings, side spare, vertical screen, big running board boxes all contribute to the aerodynamics of a brick! How did they ever get a 3ltr up to 100mph? Fully stripped I expect, can't possibly have done it with wings and screen.
