Hi Everyone!

A friend bought a 2005 Turbo at auction in Miami Fl and was not able to start his car after it was delivered. He took it to the dealer in Miami and was told that to reach the starter the entire engine had to be removed to access the starter. That seems strange to me, and I said that I would ask our learned group if there were any work around this problem.

If that is the only possibility, he will have to go the engine removal route, but I thought might be an easier mechanism to replace the starter.

Does any one have any ideas or has encounter this dilemma?

On a litter vein, does the UK or the Continent have what we call over here as Ground Hog Day? It a really event in a small town in Pennsylvania that uses the little critter to prognosticate the weather based on the whether or not the he can see his shadow at down on February 2 of each year!! It predicts
six weeks of winter on an early spring based on the shadows appearance.

Hello George,

Predict the weather in Britain! You must be joking, the grass on my little back patch has been growing all winter due to mild temperatures, but the ground is so sodden I can't get the mower on it. The BBC now predict freezing temps with the possibility of snow for the weekend.

I've got my gent's natty bathing suit and sunglasses out just in case.

We have St. Swithin's Day (July 15). If it rains on St. Swithin's Day, it will rain for the next 40 days. Similarly if it is dry on St. Swithin's Day it will be dry for the next 40 days.

We know about Groundhog Day from the brilliant film.

Post note note, for George really, the Brits reading this will know all about it.

There was still a thin coating of ice on the car when I looked out at about 08.00, so temp about minus 1 or 2 perhaps. Put on thick coat took the dog round the block, after which I had a bowl of breakfast cereal and semi skimmed.

Madam said, if you want that again tomorrow we'd better get down to Aldi. The car outside thermometer said plus 2, got the bits we needed, plus some bits we didn't, and I went to test the state of the back grass patch. The ground had dried up a bit so I decided to crack up the 35 year old Mountfield electric mower and have a go.

The grass now resembles the self inflicted tonsorial efforts of a blind piano tuner with whom I used to have the odd drink many years ago. While I was cleaning the mower a thin miserable snow started to fall, so I wound the cable up, went in the house and brewed a cup of builder's tea. As I was dunking my second Hobnob, the sun came out.

Predict the weather in England? We should be so lucky.

The only way to renew the starter without the above is to buy another car.
Remove, bumper, radiator, engine and gearbox in one unit a/c,exhaust etc etc. Could take up to 3 days to complete.
Following the hype and 5***** of "Ground Hog Day", I found that it was most disappointing, depressing really.
Bill Murray (King Pin)is the most charmless actor of all time.

English weather is very predictable, miserable with odd sunny periods.

If you look at Wikipedia under Candlemas there is an explanation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candlemas Here in Milan San Biagio’s (Saint Blaise) day on the 3rd Feb, who is portrayed with two crossed candles, is the day when any leftover Christmas panettone, which has been kept to one side, is eaten. The traditional saying is that San Biagio blesses the throat and nose against winter illnesses. You would have to go high in the Alps to see a Ground Hog (Alpine Marmot/Marmotta) and I imagine they are still under snow fast asleep.

Ciao,
Ewan

Certain service operations require removal of the car's nose and the powertrain subassembly from below. Starter replacement is one of those jobs. You can access (for a fee) the factory workshop manual for the job at erwin.bentleymotors.com

It's a very big job; expect a $5k bill at most US dealers.
