I noticed this morning that, whilst the front and side windows demister function worked very well and quickly, the electric rear screen heater was very slow to clear the window. I could not tell whether there is a fault in its operation, or whether it is just the sheer size of that window.

Is this something that others have come across and does anyone have suggestions about how to improve its performance?

What car do you have?
I only ever use my HRW to clear ice from the outside as I find it much more efficient to turn on the air conditioning. Its dehumidifying effect clears the inside of misted windows very quickly.

Hi Barrie, thanks for your response.

I have a series 1 Continental GT (2004). I just noticed that using the front demist, air con and wing mirror heaters clears all front and side windows within a minute or two, but by comparison turning on the rear window heater it still takes around eight to ten minutes to clear the mist from the inside of the rear screen (as I write this I am starting to suspect a fault with the heating element, as all cars I've owned before would clear their rear screen within a couple of minutes once the heated screen was activated).

Hi Theo,

There's a few folks in our region with early GT's so I'll try and remember to ask them about this at our next gathering which is quite soon. There is one chap who has had his a long time now and, if you pm me, I will let you have his phone number.

It does sound like the element isn't heating up however there could be myriad reasons for that.

Just an observation; you do seem to have an awful lot of mist in your car. That can be the result of damp carpets caused by faulty door seals.

You may have to go to one of your regional gatherings and interrogate some other GT owners to get the answers to all of your questions.

Best wishes,

Stephen

From the previous opinions I'm beginning to build up a picture in my mind's eye.
Unless the car is in a very damp part of the word you have an excess of moisture in the car.
On Bentleys and other a/c cars I own I just don't have this problem unless there is something's wrong with the other parts of the ventilation. Either there's a water leak into the cockpit and the moisture is being stored in the wadding/soundproofing/carpet and then being released when the car is driven off, or, more likely in my experience, the water condensate from the air con is not draining from the car because of a blocked or restricted drain and when you start the car with air con on all this latent moisture mists up the cockpit before the dehumidifying effect of the airl con kicks in and clears the windows.
