Greetings,

Bit of a 'shot in the dark but would anyone be or, know of anyone dismantling a 1950 MKVI Bentley?

Hope to buy a MK 6 that hasn't run for a long time. I suspect it needs an exhaust system, (if I'm lucky, one exhaust box - single system) + service parts + water pump + brake / master cylinder seals.

It would be helpful to know also the brake / master cylinder seals.

Hope someone can assis.

Thank you in advance.

I can't help with most of these, but David Tyler near Swindon (07813 204343) did a great job making a new exhaust for my 3 Litre and was surprisingly inexpensive. If there is enough of the old one to use as a pattern, I am sure he could do the same for a Mk VI.

Hi Julian,

The purchase of a long dead car is not a good idea. You can never make an assessment of the condition unless it can be driven and with the engine running at operating temperature.
Such projects are a money pit, and you are far better buying a running serviceable car whether it has a standard steel body or one of the main stream coach-built cars which are even more costly to restore.

Hi Julian,

There's a selection of MKVI exhaust parts on ebay at the moment. I had a complete stainless system made for my MKVI saloon by P D Gough in Nottingham. They have patterns to make an approximation of the original and I was pleased with the result.

There are loads of places doing the brake cylinder seals including ebay, Introcar & Flying Spares. It's a good idea to support Theo Hendrickson who trades as T&G Autospares as we need the independents to keep going.

You will probably find that one or more of the cylinder bores is corroded and Past Parts will fit stainless liners for you.

Good luck with your project and do let us know how you get on.

Stephen

This is the car that Julian was interested in. It languished in a garage in Ireland since 1951, sold as a original smoky runner by SWVA in Poole for £20,400 +8%. Then there will be another 20K to recommission it.

Julian was dettered by my views on the subject and the market.

A really nice and cared for 1954 Silver Dawn failed to reach its low estimate at Richard Edmond's Auction, last October, it sold after the sale for £27, 500.
