Whilst not exactly everyone's view of a Derby Bentley, this is DOC9, a Bob Burrell special in at Racing Green for an overhaul.
It has the Derby chassis apart from a Chrysler rear axle, and a Rolls- Royce 7 litre Phantom 3 V12 engine driving through a Jaguar E Type all synchromesh gearbox. The added wind from the front cabin blower, bent the supercharger drive shaft and took 3 teeth off of the constant mesh 3rd speed driving gear of the layshaft. The Jaguar metal ain,t rubbish either. £2500 for a second hand one!
You sort of aim the beast, close your eyes and pray.
That front axle looks "mighty" spindly to me, and the pivots (stub axles) of the early Derby,s were all replaced due to material failure.
The car in the background is the first of Racing Green,s R Type Continental replicas.

It's beautiful! I don't think I'm brave enough to drive it! |

Seemed like a good idea at the time! I guess when all is well it will put the biggest smile on your face ever - and surely that's what it's all about! Bonkers. |
