On my 3/4.5 the system is:
Downpipe from 4.5 manifold
4 bolt flange into silencer
ditto out to tail pipe.
The silencer is 'hanging on two circular clamps which hang from brackets off the chassis.
All in all very solid- which in a way is slightly worrying as 'modern' cars seem to suspend the systems on 'elastic'
I realize it will all flex with the chassis but?
Should i worry ?

Mine is much the same, I used to think I should do something different, but it all seems to function ok

Mine too is much the same and it hasn't been a problem. but when I first got the car I was warned to be careful not to bang the exhaust on something solid when reversing because the rigidity of the system might crack the manifold. |

Following advice from Elmdown Engineering, I have a large semi compressed spring washer either side of the chassis mounting bolts and on the silencer clamps. Lock nuts ensure that nothing comes undone. This gives a bit of flexibility to the exhaust suspension.
