I have always marveled at the long life of the V8 engine. I read the following in 'Motor Sport'.

"The enormous push rod V8, so changed from the 1959 original that only the bore centre spacings remain."

John,

Did the article mention that R-R sold the whole engine making facility to Cosworth Engineering, but bought it back in 1999,when the BMW 4.4 litre V8 in the first Arnage proved unpopular?

There was nothing wrong with the 4.4, but as with W.O,s 4 cylinder, the 6 (6.75) didn't have the same "thump".

The best read apart from Jack Phillips presentation to the I Mech E, is "Bentleys Great Eight" by Karl Ludwigshafen.

No it didn't. How interesting I had no idea that had happened.
