Hello.
My '95 LHD Continental R has had just been to the Bentley Service Centre where it was plugged into the Master Check. They have reported that the engine harness is shot and needs replacing.
This is not an uncommon problem with a 20+ year-old car. There is no point buying a salvaged loom as it will have the same issues.
So, I'm looking for a company who I can send the old harness to, can copy it and make a new one.
The problem is the classic car harness companies I've contacted in the UK are not interested; one said the car was too new, others said it was beyond their expertise.
Have any Continental, Turbo R or Arnage owners had a new engine harness made and, if so, who by?
Thank you.

After searching the planet for someone who can re-build a harness for a Continental R - and despite several attempts zero response from Bentley Crewe - those excellent folks at Frank Dale & Stepsons pointed me in the direction of Bowling Engineering in Bolton, Lancashire, UK.
I sent the existing engine loom, they tested it on their rig and rebuilt it, replacing cables and connections as necessary, before testing again on their rig. The new harness looks great and should be good for many years to some. I also had them reprogram the engine ECU (they replaced a faulty EEPROM at the same time), also after testing on their rig.
They seem to be the only company around who can rebuild modern Crewe car harnesses (other companies would only rebuild harness up to early Corniche) and I can't thank them enough.
The contact is Grahame and their contact number is +441 204 862500 |

So pleased for you, when I read your initial posting my feeling was “you will be lucky, cars have been scrapped for less”.
The electronics of cars of this era do seem to be a long term problem, sad that Bentley Motors were unhelpful. |
