Hello everybody, as I joined the BDCL last year I would like to intruduce myself. My name is Ronald Althoff, I live in Germany near Duesseldorf and have spend quite some time over the last year to gain as much information about these wonderful Derby Bentleys. As I am very interested not only in reading about it but also to own one, I thought this might me an appropriate way to put out my search request. Any feedback is very much appreciated in case you think about selling or your now somebody who intends to do so. Thank you very much Ronald |

Welcome to the Forum Ronald.
I wish you every success in your search, you have been doing the right thing in carefully researching the model, as with all old cars there are potential problem areas to be aware of. Enjoy your search and don’t be rushed!
(I know very little about this era, so apologies for not being helpful)

If you can still maintain this level of enthusiasm for the Derby after a conversation with our Mr Carnley, there is no doubt that you should buy one!
Welcome and good luck in your search. |

Congratulations Ronald!
I have had my Thrupp & M 3.5L Sports Saloon 20 years now and it is still a fabulous car.

The Derby is one of the most magical 30s cars, purer style! With any old car you will need to be prepared to spend some well earned cash unless you are looking for a car at concourse standard. The cars are complicated and parts are considerable more expensive compared to similar age makes. I upgraded from a 1939 SS Jaguar and got a bit of a shock!
I have however loved every minute of owning "Tilly" so far and it creates quite a stir wherever I go.

B185BL on an RAC Rally.
Thrupp & Maberly built bodies at 108 Cricklewood Lane, NW2, and then possibly took over the Rolls-Royce repair depot at 112 Cricklewood Lane.
Second only to Park Ward in the number of Derby Bentley bodies made, they built some real beauties.
Mind you the Weslake tuned Jaguar "Standard" 3 1/2 litre engine could deliver 125 BHP against the 3 1/2 Bentley at 82-87 BHP at 3600 peak revs, with closed cut out.
The 100-120 BHP was advertising puff. |
