. . . . . or perhaps my stars were in alignment!

After an NHS cock-up over dates, we have unexpectedly got a chance to make for Brittany in the 4.5L. William Medcalf kindly re-arranged our booking to have two new tyres fitted and the car was all set for us to go on Tuesday. Just needed cleaning and packing.

Backed out of the garage, washed the car, just had to put it back in. Pressed the starter and the Bendix spring broke! If it had held on for three more starts, it would either have broken as we were queuing to get on the ferry at Portsmouth, or off it at Cherbourg! Just to be safe, I'm thanking both God and my stars!

Luckily I had a spare spring, which is now fitted and we're ready to go.

I should buy a lottery ticket if I were you!
Just back from a French tour (in another make I am ashamed to say) and who does not have a little prayer when the ferry ramps go down and you press the starter button!
Considering the brutal design of the Bendix I am always surprised how long they do go on.
