I have cured fuel vapourisation problem on my Type R. Although it never conked out in very hot weather when caught in traffic, it hunted badly and was sometimes on the verge of failing to proceed. I added Millers Extra Cool to the rad and, more importantly, lagged the metal fuel lines that run close to the engine and under the carbs. with Thermaflect Sleeve made by Heatshield Products in the US. It is easy to fit without disconnecting the lines because it comes in flat form, i.e. not tubular and is closed by Velcro that runs along its length. |

Just wanted to thank you for posting that Charles. I have a friend with an S1 who has been having the same problem so I have told him about your solution. |

It is a good result, I have bought Thermaflect from both ebay.co.uk and Amazon.co.uk. |

Paul, if your mate with an S1 finds parts of the fuel lines difficult to reach or even see properly, which was the case with the Type R, it is easy to wrap a short piece of the insulation to an accessible section, then slide it along until there is enough space for another short section and push it along with that. By this means, one can cover the lot, piece-by-piece. I added a cable tie in a couple of places that I could reach, but I don't think this is essential. |
