And to you John. My current project is my AC engine (as it is most winters). All I wanted to do was tighten the screws on a side plate on the engine as it was leaking oil. This involves taking the engine out of the car, which is a half-hour job. Then I took it down to Charles Teall as he has a suitable puller for the flywheels. Those who know Charles won't be surprised that we then decided to remove the side plates completely to replace the gaskets. We didn't realise the crankshaft and timing gear bearings would come away with them. So now the crankshaft is sitting in the bottom of the crankcase, everything has been checked and cleaned and we will reassemble after Christmas. It should just take an hour or so. Apart from a little wear on the cam (there is only one - it operates the inlet valve when it reaches the top, and the exhaust valve 180 degrees later), everything looks as new after 108 years.
Then it will be ready for my trip from St Malo to San Sebastian in 2020. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hw2hXLM8tJc
