The numbers stamped on my C type gearbox top are 6261; is it possible to reference this number against the vehicle it was fitted in originally? |

I thought that major components were marked with the chassis number, 6261 doesn’t spring to mind as a chassis number! But I may well be wrong! |

I checked on vintagebentley.org and could see no chassis numbers anywhere near the 6000’s. after the 1000’s they are become alphanumeric.

Rob,
I sent you a reply re your C type gear box earlier today. I have just gone into the Forum and see that my messages have been deleted. Not sure why. There has been an update on the BDC site so maybe that has got something to do with it. I also had to type my username and password in. Something that has always been remembered before.
You may have seen my messages before they were deleted. If not here they are again.
If you have a copy of "Bentley The Vintage Years" Second Edition go into The Tables - 4½ litre - Chassis No NT3146. Under the Chassis number is the gearbox No C/6261. The reg was YV748. The car was broken up and sold in parts. Hence how C/6261 ended up in your car.
My second message was to say have you seen the Service Records for your car. On some of them it gives the original gearbox no and type. If you haven't got the service records you can get them by applying to the BDC office.
Hopefully this message will not be deleted this time.
Regards,
William Highley |

William,
I read your earlier post and as you say it's now disappeared. When I tried to log on just now my previously memorised details were rejected and I had to create a new password even though I hadn't forgotten my old one. But maybe my old one wasn't sophisticated enough.
I don't find the layout of the present forum and the boxes for posting new messages as good as the old one. Too much empty space and the boxes and the print are too small. What would Laurie say?! |

Robert,
Sorry not to have acknowledged your reply. I phoned the club office after my messages went missing and they explained that the website was being updated and that the Forum would be out of action for a few days. Hence I never went back into it which was the reason I missed your message.
It seems to be working now although I have had to sign in again.
I contacted Rob via email in case he hadn't seen my original reply.
Kind Regards,
William |
