The manual tells one how to remove the "finishing" panel which I am pretty sure is the inner wooden trim in order to remove the windscreen.
I've got most of the dash out and need to remove this section, too.
It's old and brittle (a bit like me!) so before I try to remove it - does the top slide back into the cockpit and the bottom section lift out - just like the door finisher??
I want to refurbish it - so dont want to cause any unnecessary damage.
Any help gratefully received - as always! |

Remove the domed wood screws, insert old kitchen knives all around, ease with prayers, holy oil and incantations and hope that it comes out backwards.
A marvellous piece of steam bending.
It may come as little comfort that I burned two really good repaired ones not so long ago, just to clear some space. |

Thanks Chris - you always bring a little smile to my face!
Before you torch any other R Type bits or send to the scrapman, do think of me! |

The rear screen frame is a piece of steam bent ash, that went that way, too. Did,nt last long.
The seats went as well, but I have a reupholstered brown hide pair of front ones for the manual version. |

Two hours of gently-gently and it's out in one piece.
I also managed to extract the right hand dash board section in one piece by unbolting the steering colum from the chassis angle bracket; I wiggled the steering colum from the engine compartment whilst my glamorous assistant pulled the dash free.
Terribly satisfying. |
