Losing Oil which appears to be coming from the dipstick tube.
The seal consisting of a recess under the brass knob pushed onto a 'split' tube doesn't look great.
Any ideas and has anyone had a similar problem.

Oil leaks can be really hard to accurately identify, the dipstick on mine sounds just the same as yours and is loose, I used to think that it must be the source of the not inconsiderable oil loss, but sorting the various other sources proved that it contributed only a tiny amount.

This topic made me ponder how much oil must been spewing out onto the track during pre-war races at Brooklands and elsewhere.
Can anyone make a rule of thumb calculation of the typical volume of oil per car (being thrashed,) per hour x number of cars in race x duration?
If you look at old footage of races, it's a wonder many drivers (and riding mechanics) survived anyway, without the added factor of driving on what may have been a deadly skid pan.
Frightens me just think about it! |

Maybe there are sealing washers not doing their job on the main oil feed to and from the filter housing, just in front of the dipstick? |

In my case, the principal culprits were the joint in the turret and the rev counter drive at the front end of the camshaft. |
