Losing Oil which appears to be coming from the dipstick tube.
The seal consisting of a recess under the brass knob pushed onto a 'split' tube doesn't look great.
Any ideas and has anyone had a similar problem.

Oil leaks can be really hard to accurately identify, the dipstick on mine sounds just the same as yours and is loose, I used to think that it must be the source of the not inconsiderable oil loss, but sorting the various other sources proved that it contributed only a tiny amount.

This topic made me ponder how much oil must been spewing out onto the track during pre-war races at Brooklands and elsewhere.

Can anyone make a rule of thumb calculation of the typical volume of oil per car (being thrashed,) per hour x number of cars in race x duration?

If you look at old footage of races, it's a wonder many drivers (and riding mechanics) survived anyway, without the added factor of driving on what may have been a deadly skid pan.

Frightens me just think about it!

Maybe there are sealing washers not doing their job on the main oil feed to and from the filter housing, just in front of the dipstick?

In my case, the principal culprits were the joint in the turret and the rev counter drive at the front end of the camshaft.
