I purchased a BDC badge to be mounted on the grill of my Continental GT. It arrived with hardware, but without instructions on how to mount it. Before I make a hash of it (or have to take it to a dealer) I welcome advice. Many thanks.

That is not trying to be a joke, it’s quite serious.

The first thing I did was to cut out a piece of 2mm thick neoprene and stick it to the back of the badge to prevent road or engine vibrations causing any scratching of the grille.
(On a Diesel Mercédès not my R-Type).

The badge is mounted through the grille at a suitable position, in my case I added a locknut to hold the threaded post into the boss on the back of the badge. Major problem will no doubt be access to the back of the grille, As I don’t have a modern Bentley I am afraid I can’t help.

Cheers
John

Thanks for your responses. I did purchase a grill mounted badge; the issue is how to get access to the inside of the grill. The hardware is quite simple (a bolt with a fixed nut, another nut with a washer and a steel plate with a slot in the middle that pretty clearly secures the badge by being bolted to the to the inside of the grill with the other nut).

The fixed nut is positioned so that it fits neatly into a cylindrical post on the back of the badge. But the steel plate doesn’t fit through the openings in the grill, so I need access to the back of the grill, and that’s the rub.

I am hopeful there is some clever way of getting access to the inside of the grill (a 2013 Continental GT Le Mans edition).

Many thanks and stay safe in this concerning time.

I don't know the nature of the grill, but is there any possibility of using the toggle or other type of patent fixings that are used for hollow walls? I'm thinking of the type that have a rear fitting which drops or springs into position when it gets into position.

Having fitted a grille fit badge to my daily driver, the spring out type fasteners don’t work, because the fixing bolt, when bottomed out in the boss, cannot be rotated unless you turn the whole badge with it, thus risking damage to the grille during the final couple of turns to clamp it securely.

On my Mercédès, you could just about tighten the fitting from behind the grille bars. So far nothing has dropped off the badge and its fixings.

Cheers
John
