I am a new member with a 2000 Red Label Arnage.

It came with only one key and alarm fob.

Question 1 Does this type of key have a chip or electronic device fitted into it or is it just a simple blade?

Question 2 If with a chip does the key need to be ordered from a Bentley dealer or is there another route to purchase a spare?

Question 3 The same question for the key fob. Is it only available from a main dealer or is there any other suppliers?

Thank you very much in advance for any assistance. I am terrified of losing the key and being stick.

Kind regards
Paul Bridgestock (France)

Yes regarding Keys, this seems to be a Main Dealership route for you, get your flexible friend at the ready. You might well have to attend at the garage so that they can re-set both keys.
Do you have a list of main dealers near you.

Good evening Philip and thank you.

I am in Department 11 (Aude) which is down in the south. I believe that there are dealers in Bordeaux but that is a bout a 9 hour round trip or Paris which is much further. I don't have an actual list.

I heard that keys for more recent models are very difficult to obtain as VW were not producing them. I don't know if that is correct or not.

I speak French so I will call the Bordeaux dealer on Monday.

In my naivety I rather hoped that they might be available elsewhere. If anybody reading this is aware of another route do please let me know.

Anyway thank you for your response and have a nice weekend.

Kind regards
Paul

I can only see the following towns/Cities, Lyon,Geneva,Bordeaux, Monaco,Barcelona. that have Bentley/Rolls dealers.
Would you like me to ask over here to see what sort of service you can get.

Good evening Philip.

That would be most kind.

The most important question after availability and how many bars of Nazi gold I have to sell to buy one, is do they need the actual car as well as the ignition key/alarm fob.

Your help much appreciated.

We are bringing the old boy back to the UK we hope in September but it would be easier if only the key or chassis number was needed.

Thank you very much.
Kind regards
Paul

We need to know if the car is registered still in the UK or in France. If UK then I can help you. If France then you have to contact a French dealer. You can email me if it any easier.

Registration is VPB 968 (or could still be listed as X724 MDX as it is changing over.

We register all our cars in France normally BUT due to the emissions it would be I am told, 10.000 € to register Bertie hence it is, and always will be British!

OH GOOD.
Well my garage says that they can do you a key, but the new ones will not unlock the boot or the glove box, only doors and ignition.
Do you want me to email you the details or post on here.

Philip.

Get in touch with these people, they are quite helpful and seem to know what they are doing.

I may have caught them on a bad day but I was shocked at what I consider to be the rudeness and unhelpfulness in their reply to what I felt was a very polite enquiry.

I have just received the service history for my car and ironically they have serviced and looked after my car several times in the past but they are obviously not interested now.

I very much appreciate the recommendation but after the very curt response I will look elsewhere.

Why not ask Introcar or Flying Spares?

Oh dear, sorry to hear this Paul, can you tell me who you spoke to.That is certainly not their style usually.
I can also agree about Flying Spares, very helpful and knowledgeable .not used Intro yet.

It's no problem. I very much prefer to contact people via email. I like the clarity of record and the fact that rather than just speaking to whoever answers the phone emails tend to get to the right person.

I explained who I was and that a fellow BDC member had recommended them. I gave full details of the car and asked if they could supply a key and fob. I felt it could have not been more polite.

I did get a fairly prompt email response but all it said was

Dear Sir (rather then using my name)
You need to contact Jack Barclay in London (and the phone number).

Nothing else, no sorry that we can't help or thanks for contacting us etc.

I just felt it was curt and cold and rather unhelpful. I was a bit surprised especially as I would have thought that they would want to be helpful to a prospective new client.

Perhaps in this modern age my expectations are too high.

I do very much appreciate the recommendation however.
Keep safe everybody and kind regards
Paul

I am surprised and rather put out that you should have been treated as you describe.I wonder if the Boss Charlie gave the job to a member of staff, he is normally quite affable.
Now I have lapped at Jack Barclay, I could find NO email address on their website. So I suggest you give them a ring .

keep me posted.

I have had to help in obtaining a replacement key for a VW Lupo, it seems to have a chip which interacts with the immobiliser. Costs for a replacement have varied from £60 with Timpsons
https://www.timpson.co.uk/services/car-keys
To £160 from the VW main dealer.
It may be worthwhile contacting Timpsons.

I can second what John said about Timpson's. My secondhand Land Rover came with only one key (the type with built in chip) and remote fob.
Timpsons were able to replicate the chipped key for a very reasonable cost compared to LR dealer. They were unable to copy the fob though.
I believe only certain of the Timpson outlets can provide this service but their website will tell you the nearest location.

Thank you to both of you for your suggestion.

I had been on the Timpson site but could not find anything.

I will contact them as soon as I am home and report.

I sent an email using the Timpsons customer contact form on Saturday morning and so far late on Tuesday evening, I have had nothing back apart from an automated response to my email on Saturday.

Reason for your enquiry

Please Provide Details Of Your Query
Good afternoon.
I have a 2000 Bentley Arnage Red Label 6.75 with a chipped ignition key and a separate remote control fob which locks the central locking and alarm. It is fairly old fashioned technology I fear. Are you able to provide a key and remote fob please and if so a few further questions.
1; I presume that you require both car and keys or can you do it from the keys and fob alone?
2: What is the time frame for completion from the time you get the keys and car?
3: What is the price for each?
4. Which of your stores around Dover would be able to complete the work. (I will have to return from France to get the work done).
I thank you very much in anticipation of your help.
I am a member of the Bentley Owners Club and if you can assist me then I can promise you more work from other fellow members. I will report progress on the Club Forum.
Kind regards
Paul

I would have hoped for a response on Monday but so far nothing. I hate phoning but will if they can't be bothered. Report to follow

I took the opportunity of having nothing to do today and contacted my local Timpsons, he called me back and assured me that the company would not be able to meet your requirements on the key for that model.
I have spoken to Phantom motors and have put a link below, they can supply all that you want, but will need the car and your keys and the paperwork to prove the car is yours and that you are he.I spoke to Stuart one of the partners and he would be happy to be in touch with you. they could have the ket etc cut ready for your visit and then do the electronic stuff when you arrive. They are near Guilford.
Do update us on the outcome.

Dear Philip.

Thank you so much for your ongoing assistance. I wonder if you would consider collecting the car from France and taking it for me? After all you have done everything else! I will contact them tomorrow by phone and I will report back here on progress.

Thank you again kind Sir. Your help is much appreciated.

Kind regards
Paul

Indeed. It will probably be October before going back. Having had a remote control key fob fail on a BMW years ago and being stuck on holiday in Paris, I will feel safer once a new key and fob is obtained.

When I speak to them I will also ask about upgrading the Sat Nav.

I will let everybody know how I get on.

Kind regards

Thank goodness that has turned out alright for you.I have to admit that Stuart of Phantom knew what he was talking about when I asked him a couple of questions, no hesitations. I shall take my Brooklands up to their garage next time.
