I was wondering whether anybody has had the experience of the engine running erratically. That is almost stalling then speeding up to beyond tick over. Sort of up and down. I had a bad dose of this behavior earlier this year, my local Bentley Dealer replaced a solenoid and the problem stopped. The car did it again the last two times out. I have two thoughts probably entirely wrong, first; the temperature gauge reads low on my car generally never far off the bottom. I noticed it was heading towards the center of normal range last time out. Checking the water it was 1 litre low in coolant. Perhaps it will need further topping up after I start it again. I assume engine temperature affects the fuel mixture to the injection system? Maybe if the sensor sits roughly on the transition from partial "Choke" to no "Choke" the engine can run rough. Does the ECU take it's reading from the same sensor? Second, does the car have a mixture adjustment or is this totally controlled by the ECU? In other words can you tune one of these cars? The tick over has always been a bit erratic. Any ideas guys?

Having a Brooklands of the same year I can only suggest ideas based on my own similar experiences at 98k miles. My car does not have the modern trend of plug in computer and having a read out of problems.
I suggest that you have a dye water system pressure done, as the loss of water hints to that. Then a compression test .Should this find no problems you can go back to the thought of which electronic part is faulty, knowing that the engine is basically ok.

I take it that the spark plugs were looked at to see which cylinder was affected as a basic test.

keep us updated please.
