Hello,
I am a new BDC member in the East Midlands area and have recently purchased an R type rolling chassis and Harry Rose body tub with the intention of building a special (it’s going to be a long journey…)
My car doesn’t come with an Engine and gearbox, and with this in mind, I would like to use a Shadow/T1 engine.
Looking at the BDC rules on specials, it appears that I need to keep with the automatic gearbox, is this just for racing?
If it’s only for racing, would the club recognise the car if I convert to a manual box (I ask as the TH400 box also went into the E-type V12, so the conversion to a manual Getrag box looks to be a serious possibility).
Has anyone had the same dilemma on the forum?
Has anyone converted a V8 to manual?
Many thanks

Hi Stuart,
I just spent ages typing a reply to that, pressed "submit" and it vanished.
I can't face going through that again. It would be easier if I just popped round for a chat and a cup of tea?
Long story short, I'm not far away and also have an R Type Bentley project, albeit an abandoned one (after reading the BIVA regs).
Will you be joining us at the E. Mids AGM on Saturday?
Kind regards,

Did you acquire this from "Grandison," Musselburgh?
The Shadow / T series V,8 s are to be avoided, they are full of corrosion.
Better to go for a"Spirit" or an S1 6 cylinder.

Hi Christopher,
I did buy the car from Musselburgh.
Interesting feedback on the Shadow engine and I will take on board when trying to source a motor.
Many thanks

Hi Stephen,
I have only just seen your reply, I didn't make the AGM as we were entertaining guests.
It would be good to meet and chat through options. I am in Weston Underwood.
or perhaps a telephone chat would also work.

Hi Stuart,
Apparently, I'm 12 minutes from Weston Underwood. I'll send you a text message.
