I have just become the owner of a 1948 MK VI and have discovered that the heater is permanently on. I cannot find how to turn it off. Any suggestions would be very welcome, thanks.

I know you may roll your eyes, but have you tried turning the switch off? It’s on the instrument panel bottom right hand side marked “H” with a knurled circumference. Turn it to the left to switch off. If that doesn’t work, perhaps there is an electrical fault in the switch itself.

I think that he means the water circulation,Martin.

On this 1948 car there is only one tap. shown at the bottom of the picture.
Close the jaws of an adjustable spanner onto the flats of the tap.
It may be jammed and vigorous action may shear it off.

If so, move the plug leads out of the area, and blast the body of the tap with a propane torch then apply engine oil on the joint and give it another go.

If still stuck, remove the tap from the piping, then remove the bottom brass nut and cam, then heat it and tap it out.
