I am unable to get smooth operation on my 3 litre mixture control (Rich-Weak) (Slopers)
If i put return springs on both jets the control is virtually solid
So I only work the jet on the rear carb.and as the mags are rebuilt the car fires up.
Anyone got any tips?

Like you, I have extra springs to stop unwanted jet adjustment.
My choke control is unusable! When the engine is stone cold I just tickle both carbs and the engine starts immediately. I don’t need to repeat the procedure the same day.

I use my mixture control. In winter, I need it to start and gradually release it as the engine warms. There are a lot of linkages. Have you lubricated all the connections? The most important thing is that the mixture is fully weakened when the know ois fully clockwise. You shoukd be able to that therenis no gap where the linkage meets the carbs. I am assuming slopers.

As it is many years since I really looked at the mixture control linkages, I disconnected it to find out where the problem is.
The linkages were all free. The problem is the actual jet lowering, the first quarter of an inch is really tight and notched, once past this point all works fine! At present I’m not going to further dismantle the jets as I’m fearful of causing leaks!
