Can anyone please recommend an insurer for a MKVI special? One where the person on the phone knows what a special is would be a good start.
Thanks in advance,
Stephen

I imagine you have already tried RH.
Lockton have also been helpful in the past and seem to understand old cars!

You could try Hagerty. They are flexible and permit personal valuations without an upper limit to value for an agreed value policy.

Thanks for those suggestions.
I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi Stephen

Adrian Flux have also been good in my experience with modified Landrovers.

I know a number of my freainds have also used them for modified cars.

Thanks, everyone. I went with RH in the end. The fact that our Nash Metropolitan is already insured with them seemed to help and it appears I now have a "Cherished Multi Vehicle" policy. The only slight issue is that it appears the cars aren't covered for theft if they're not garaged overnight, e.g. if parked outside a hotel.

Stuart, by a strange coincidence I have just tried to phone you, but I'm guessing you're at work. You did ask if I could introduce you to a Harry Rose owner or two at Silverstone this weekend. That's been rather overtaken by a couple of events. One is that I won't be going due to time pressures.

On a more positive note, I am now the proud owner of the ex-Donald Jack Harry Rose, HSF 740 which appears in Ray's tome as well as Malcolm Gordon's Harry Rose database which has been deleted from the club's website, but which I emailed you a copy of a while back.

Donald built the car between 1972 and '81 then ran it for 43 years. He clearly devoted a huge amount of time, talent and love to its construction.

You are most welcome to pop round for inspiration for your own Harry Rose project.

All the best,

Stephen

Stephen, my car is with RH and I assume the policy wording will be the same, regarding garaging, it is specific regarding theft at home (it has to be garaged) but when away from home the clause doesn’t apply.

The car was sold at auction by Derek Mathewson, and features in his walkround on Youtube.

Thanks for clarifying that, John. I have checked the wording and you are right. The young man on the phone had got it wrong. I did challenge him on this point. Mind you, after my attempt at educating him as to what a special is, he asked if the car had been modified.....

Chris; It didn't sell at Mathewsons, which is why it doesn't appear in their results listings. I'll give you the bigger picture next time we visit.
