When I got my first WO car fifty years ago, I was advised never to exceed 3500rpm, the opinion being that 3501rpm would result in a con rod parting company. I still think that if you want your engine to last keeping to a 3500 (or less) is wise.
However I quickly realised that the team cars in period must have been using far higher revs. Reading in Review 359 that May Cunliffe’s supercharged 3ltr was revved to 5200rpm with 25psi astounded me. How did it all stay together.
