A very nice 4½ sold at Bonhams yesterday, but does anyone know what that nicely engineered lever is just below the steering column, viewable in the second dashboard photo?

If you look at the 4th picture, it is shown strapped to the underside of the steering column, before disappearing down to the rear shackle position, via a Hooke joint. |

My guess is it is for adjusting the angle of the headlights. |

If you look at the "angled" photo of the O/S engine, you can see a link going up to the headlamp stand so, I also think that it is a manual dipping system.
