Here are a couple of images of my HJM B88HR. The first is of the original owner Albert Hely competing at Firle in 1951. The second is as she is today. LXB 295 was removed from the Mk VI and re registered to the new owner's (Dr. Rohan) 1969 Silver Shadow in 1984. The DVLA tax checker website indicates that the SS still exists although on a SORN and has not been MOTd for 8 years. Obviously, they are unable to give me any information regarding its whereabouts. I would like to see if it is possible to regain the original registration for my car and if anyone can assist me I would be extremely grateful.
Martin. B88HR

Martin,
Have you tried the RREC, they might have a record of the current owner.
My understanding is that you could only transfer the registration number from the Shadow if it were mot'd, (assuming the current owner were prepared to sell the number or whole car). If its been off the road for 8 years, I dread to think what the cost of getting it road worthy might be!

Thank you John. I have not approached the RREC yet. I was unaware of the fact that the vehicle had to be road worthy to transfer the registration. As you say, it would probably be a prohibitively expensive exercise.

The DVLA often wish to inspect the vehicle as well.

I'm not sure of the situation should the Shadow be scrapped, possibly easier as one may be able to purchase the number from the DVLA

Martin,
Have you contacted any of the registration repositories, such as Elite Registrations, et al?

Martin,

It may be worth writing to DVLA, enclosing a letter addressed to the current owner of the SS, and asking whether it could be forwarded. My authority for thinking this may work is that a few years ago I stopped to assist a driver who had broken down on a very busy roundabout, and a couple of weeks later I received a letter from her, forwarded by DVLA, and thanking me. DVLA said in a covering letter that on occasion it would forward a letter addressed to the owner of a car. It's probably worth a try.

Regards,

James

Thanks Chris and James. I think the biggest problem will be that the SS will not be road worthy and as John mentions, the cost of repairs to ensure this would be prohibitive. I will approach Elite though as they may have some good contacts in the trade.

Martin,
You can write to the DVLA on formV888,requesting the owners details. Such a request may be "just" reason.
As the vehicle is covered by SORN, it may not need an MOT to transfer the registration.

I will download the form Chris and return it to Swansea with a covering letter for them to forward as well. Will let you know how it goes.
Martin.
