In another posting, reference is made to carrying spares when far from home.
What spares do you carry?
I have some obvious consumables, fuel, oil, water, bulbs. A resonable tool kit.
But what about other stuff?
A spare inner tube. So far not needed.
Over some 100,000 miles of continental driving in vintage cars (mainly the 3ltr) I have had four magneto failures, so carry a pair of spare magnetos.
My only other 'failure to proceed' was when a carb needle dropped out.
So what else is sensible to have on board?

As well as many of the other items already suggested, I have a couple of spark plugs, magneto contact breaker spring, bendix spring, brake light switch, fuses, exhaust pipe repair, "rad weld", wiper blade, gasket compound, superglue and crossed fingers.
I don't carry spare mags, as they are bulky and heavy, and although it happened to me once (because I wasn't checking them regularly) you are unlikely to lose two mags at the same time. No point in taking only one because Dr Sodt's Law . .

I have often wondered which parts of the pair of ML's are actually 'handed' (apart from the obvious) and how much is common to both magnetos. If only one spare magneto is carried how feasible would it be to change from one to the other? Perhaps someone with more knowledge can advise.
