After some years doing other things at this time of the year, I had a morning free to go to the Villa d'Este. Here are some of the Bentley offerings. Enjoy!!

| Is that the Birkin single seater in the top two pictures? Do we know who now owns the car and is it being raced any more. I have not heard much about it since the George Daniels sale. |

The Villa d’Este registration card says that it’s a 1929 Bentley 4 ½ l. Open Single-seater, Birkin & Couper. Entered by Jürgen Ernst (DE).

He entered it in the 2013 Flying Scotsman. And with a passenger in place of the hamper!
AH1111 is a a 1947 MK VI, B42 AK,coachwork by HJ Mulliner,for the Maharajah Baroda who kept the car in the UK.
XBV 230 is the Bentley Cresta 1948, chassis B447CD, the original design on B323CD was by Pininfarina, but R-R did,t take to the wide grille, therefore Facel Metallon on licence from PF, built this car with the narrower grille.
These few rare coach built , and coach-built drop heads, will be the only MK VI Bentleys left, that have not been rebuilt as specials.
542 UYL is chassis BC20A, a 1953 R Type Continental,shown at the Geneva Salon in 1953, but failed to reach its estimate of 1M-1.3 M euros at Villa Erba last Friday, 27th May 2017.

I especially like the interior of the convertible MkVI.
That cloth reminds me of my late auntie's curtains. |

All this time and not a peep, then you get personal.
If a "diet" means a reducing diet, then no, it is the usual, sensible fare. You should have seen the whole brown Dover sole that I had last night, with Jersey Royal (International Kidney) potatoes and mixed greens, and a glass of English wine

Sounds excellent. No more Cumberland sausages I take it.
I am seeing the cardiac specialist Monday at 8.15am, there may be some suggestions about my diet.
Given the choice between the Cresta and a "standard" HJM fastback, I think I would choose the latter. |

No, I meant the R-type, although this car also has a more satisfying treatment of the side windows where they lead into the roof. The Cresta looks too rotund in that area.
Might be a good subject for a thread, "which is your favourite coachbuilt design and why?" All entrants given equal consideration from Ford 8 dog vans up to F and F Bentleys etc. |
