|
|
Originally the firewall of the Derby Bentley had an internal insulation with the brand name "Seapak". It was made of Kapok and the Seapak Insulation Co. in London produced it (also for the airplane industry).
My car has no original insulation. Instead there is under the carpet material some rubber-foam sheet material. I donīt like it and it is not a proper insulation.
I would be interested to replace it with a material which is similar to the original Seapak insulation.
What is the recommendation of our knowledgable members?
Thank you, Ralf |

I suggest that you contact "Woolies Trim", mail order, web site, Woolstenholmes, near Peterborough, trimming suppliers, very good and get their advice.
Kapok is the oily fibrous cover of the seeds of the silk-cotton tree, used for stuffing pillows and life jackets etc |

In the meantime I got the response from Woolies. They do not know what "Seapak" was.
Seapak was on the vertical part of the firewall under the carpet.
But:
- what was Seapak
- thickness
- were there different shaped pieces on the firewall
- was it bound on the edges
- was it glued to the firewall (I do not think so - but I do not know)
I understand that Seapak doesnīt exist any more today. But nevertheless my intention is to replace it with a similar material in exactly the way, it was used in our cars when they were new. |

The only"similar" material does not exist as the paper covered seed coating kapok fibres are no longer safe to use as insulation.
Manufactured by the then Seaman Paper Co, it is obsolete, but post war, haired felt was used.
Woollies sell 1/2" thick felt for you to cut out and stick on. Sticky backed bitumen pads are also widely used. |
