|
|
Whilst having other work done on my Continental GTC at Jack Barclay they observed that the wheel bolt holes had been painted when the wheels were refurbished. They told me that this was a safety matter and hence I told them to do the necessary work. I then sent the bill to the dealer who arranged the refurbishment. So far no reply (no surprise there as the dealer, Imperials, never reply to anything - don't buy anything from them) but I anticipate that they will dispute it. Can anyone help me to justify my claim?

Thanks Paul,
I have an email from them but am looking for more assistance. Otherwise it will be suggested that JB are just looking for more business. |

What is the actual safety issue? |

In that case, you could contact the Crewe Spares Scheme. They offer advice as well as parts, so may be able to give advice. Contacts are in the Diary and Advertiser. |

The vague idea is, if painted, then any fatigue cracks that may arise around the holes may be invisible.
Alloys are invariably coated from new to protect from the atmosphere, salt etc. |

Jack Barclay said that they had had cases where wheel nuts had come loose presumably when the paint had worn away under the nuts letting them loosen. Anybody had that happen to them? |

That seems strange. The nut causes the bolt to stretch and the paint would be under compression - I can't see how it can go anywhere while the nut is tight, or that the paint thickness would make much difference even if it did. |
