I can't speak for the prop shaft as I have a modern one to go with the overdrive. I use Castrol ST90 in the gearbox and Penrite Transoil 140 in the rear axle. I have grease in the steering box.

What do you use for chassis oiling? I have been using a steam cylinder oil as recommended in the Tech Facts, but it is very messy. I am planning to move over to a semi-fluid grease when I run out of the oil.

Dan,
I use Penrite Semi Fluid Grease for all the chassis points. Much less mess than oil, but sufficiently viscous to reach everywhere.

At his Vintage Tech Day this year, William Medcalf recommended Castrol Spheerol EPL2 semi fluid grease for all chassis lubrication, including compensators, track rods, kingpins etc. I have some on the bench, but haven't yet tried it.

With regard to the kingpins, William suggested temporarily closing off the hole in the the kingpins caps, and then pumping in as much Spheerol as you can, which will then force all sorts of muck (even water) out from the bottom of the kingpins. It will exit past the felt washers at the joint with the axle.

Chris

Can someone recommend an effective method of sealing the top of the track-rod ends as I was struggling to move any grease from the bottom joints. It seems vital that the new grease forces out any old contaminated muck from this joint that must take the bulk of load?
