I'm looking for a British made cast-iron English wheel, such as a Ranalah, Kendrick or FJ Edwards. If you can help, please contact me - thank you.

There was a section on one of the US custom motor sickle progs, and the guy was making a petrol tank by hand from al sheet. We saw him cut the part to pattern with an electric cutter, then anneal the metal with a rich oxy/acetylene flame all black to anneal it ( also done by heating a soaped piece until the soap goes black), melting temperature being a little more than annealing temp.
He then bashed the panel on a sand bag with a round mallet to shaped it then proceeded with the old English wheel, rotating the adjusting screw with his knee to smooth out the dents. Finally he went over it with a pneumatic plannishing hammer.
There are two of the desired ones on ebay. mucho dosho, multi sheckels. |

They do appear on EBay fairly regularly but they always appear to have an issue (and a high price) the top wheels on both available today look shot! One's also got a cracked leg and comes with no anvils! I can buy a brand new cast iron one for 2/3rds of the opening price!
My heart is set on a Ranalah - I have the space! |
